श्रीभगवानुवाच ।ऊर्ध्वमूलमधःशाखमश्वत्थं प्राहुरव्ययम् ।छन्दांसि यस्य पर्णानि यस्तं वेद स वेदवित् ॥ १५.१ ॥

श्रीभगवान ने कहा — ऊपर की ओर जड़ों वाले और नीचे की ओर शाखाओं वाले अविनाशी पीपल के वृक्ष को कहा गया है, जिसके पत्ते वेद हैं। जो इसे जानता है, वही वेदों का ज्ञाता है।

The Supreme Lord said: They speak of an eternal ashvattha tree with roots above and branches below, whose leaves are the Vedic hymns. One who knows this tree is a knower of the Vedas.
